South Staffordshire College Floristry students have taken part in a world class floral display at Rodbaston Campus hosted by demonstrator Bert Kuiper from Dutch flower supplier Barendsen.
The students were joined by an audience of floristry professionals and members of the public who witnessed Bert’s stunning creations of wedding bouquets. The students examined the ways in which floristry plays a role in a variety of applications and designs including event decoration.
Bert also used the demonstration to teach students how to market specific design products to brides and gave examples of how he incorporates these in his own floristry shop in Holland.
College Floristry Lecturer, Laura Leong, said the event was beneficial for all the students who attended: “Bert showcased different ways to combine plants, air plants and cuts flowers together".
The learners would also have benefited from the advanced product knowledge of Barendsen's Jan de Boer, who was able to tell the students about the background of the products, the particular growing season, how the products are produced and where they are produced. Not only was the event enjoyable, but it also provided essential insight into the commercial end product,” she said.
