The Queen was presented with an orchid name in her honour on her Monday afternoon tour of Chelsea.
The Taiwan Orchid Growers’ Association, which had a Gold medal-winning stand at the flower show, gave her majesty a potted Queen Elizabeth II orchid. The flower resulted from the pairing of the Sin-Yaun Golden Beauty doritaenopsis and the Pinlong Cheris phalaenopsis. The marriage is intended to fuse the best aspects of Eastern and Western aesthetics producing a new variety that is both resplendent in colour and numerous in flowers.
A statement said: “The colour of this new orchid is reminiscent of the elegant yellow primrose dress and matching hat Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II wore during the wedding of His Royal Highness Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton.”
