David Austin, the specialist rose breeder, is tipping the Darcey as its recommended rose for Valentine’s Day bouquets.
Darcey is a deep magenta pink in the bud then, as a young flower, it becomes raspberry red and gradually turns a dark, velvety crimson. David Austin claims that this is the first of his roses that can be stocked by florists and will still provide a good vase life in the home. In the florist’s shop, Darcey will gradually reveal its beautiful rosette form, making it a fantastic luxury option for customers looking to treat their Valentine to something extra special.
The standard stem length for Darcey is 40cm, although the company reports that more customers are ordering their longer 50 or 60cm stem lengths. Stock of the premium stem lengths is limited, but can be ordered in advance when the extra height is required to create a more impressive show.
Bookings for David Austin’s newest rose Keira are already being taken in advance following recent sneak previews by the company ahead of its official launch. This rose is a great option for fashion-conscious autumn brides as insiders say it is wonderful variety to work with. As with all of David Austin’s roses, Keira has its own character and charm. The pale pink and cream blooms, often flushed with pink and peachy highlights, have lightly frilled petal edges providing a very fashionable vintage and romantic look.
