One of the oldest established floristry school held its annual European School in London in October.
Students came from Asia and England to attend the four-day master class in European Floristry Design, which incorporated advanced levels of floral artistry. Tutors on the course were Barbara Shakespeare, Geoffrey Hughes, Chirhiro Hidaka and Lynda Owen.
Flower Design of Britain was founded in Great Britain in 1949 by Rona Coleman to help train boys and girls in the art of floristry after the Second World War, and the school celebrated its sixtieth year last year.
With Rona Coleman’s retirement seventeen years ago the floristry school was acquired by Barbara Shakespeare and Geoffrey Hughes who then incorporated Chihiro Hidaka of Tokyo as their Asian director. With their enthusiasm it is as successful and vibrant in the 21st century as was in the past.
Now Flower Design of Britain’s main flower studio is with Barbara Shakespeare in Weston-super- Mare, England. Flower Design of Britain also has floristry studios in Thailand and Tokyo, Japan. For details of their courses www.fdb-flower.com
