Laura Leong NDSF, a floristry lecturer at South Staffordshire College in Rodbaston, has qualified for the international “Competition for friends of floral art”, sponsored by Belgian flower design magazine Fleur Creatif.
In order to qualify for the competition, Laura had to send a picture of an advent design in to the magazine. The design had to be suitable for outdoor display. Laura focussed on plant materials and shapes that were hardy and evocative of Christmas. She collected pine needles from the grounds of South Staffordshire College for the design, which took about two hours to complete.
For the final, which will be held at Gregor Lersch’s Advent Presentation in Bad Neuenahr in Germany on 13 and 14 November, each of the 24 competitors will have to make a floral chandelier.
Prizes include €750 for the winner, a three-day seminar with Gregor Lersch for second place, and a book package worth €250 for third place.
