The BFA is looking for the next "BFA Florist of the Year". The competition (for florists aged 25 or over), is held to find the competitor who will represent Great Britain in the Europa Cup - the most coveted floristry prize in Europe.
The Europa Cup Competition takes place only once every four years and is not for the faint hearted. It involves a gruelling three days of intense competition against some of the best florists from around 18 countries. Some of the world’s most renowned designers are past winners of the Europa Cup.
The current BFA Florist of the Year is Neil Whittaker NDSF FSF AIFD (also the RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year 2009). Neil competed at the Europa Cup in Slovenia in 2007 and reached a very credible fourth place - the highest placing by a British competitor.
The next BFA Florist of the Year competition will be held at the FleurEx, the BFA annual trade show in Birmingham on Saturday 23 October and Sunday 24 October 2010.
Competitors will be asked to create five designs to showcase their skills. Members from the UK Floristry Judges Guild will be joined by a member of the FLORINT judging team to cast their eyes over the finished pieces in order to decide upon a winner.
To enter, visit www.britishfloristassociation.org and click on "BFA Florist of the Year" in the competition tab. Here you will be able to download a copy of the full schedule and application form.
The deadline for entries is 15 September 2010.
